Carousel

Also known as: Filmstrip Navigation, Scrolling Menu

What

Show thumbnail images of items on a scrolling menu, which allows users to browse through them.

Example image

iTunes Store - Scroll through new releases.

Use when

  • Users can recognize the item they need by seeing a thumbnail of it.
  • There is not enough space to show all items at the same time
  • You want to let the user concentrate his attention only on a smaller set of items at a time.

Why

  • Saves screen real estate.
  • Simplifies the UI, as only small set of items is shown at time.
  • It is very dynamic and fun to use for some users.
